THE PROJECT
One million images. One million traces. A human time capsule.
ONE MILLION PIXELS PROJECT is a participatory fresco built one person at a time. The million is not a pre-made picture: it is made of memories, faces, places, objects and fragments of life chosen by PIXELISTS.
For €1, each contribution reserves one unique coordinate in a 1,000 × 1,000 grid. The image is prepared as a square, dated, moderated and then permanently integrated into the fresco. Those who want to can select their exact X / Y coordinate with the dedicated option.
As the fresco grows, it becomes a human map to explore: move from the global view to one precise image, find a trace by number or coordinates, and discover random pieces of lives that would probably never have met anywhere else.
Beyond its artistic dimension, the project has a charitable purpose: 33% of profit after expenses will be donated to 20 charities. Each pixel contributes to a collective artwork that also makes a difference to others.
01A person behind every pixel
A pixel is not just a graphic unit here. It represents a choice made by PIXELISTS: a photograph, a year, a country and a personal story. Together, those choices form a collective portrait that can exist only through the people who join it.
A collective time capsule
The fresco is designed as a digital time capsule. Every image preserves the trace of a moment and a person at a fixed coordinate. If the million is reached, the completed work will tell the story of an era through one million independent human choices.
A trace made to travel
PIXELISTS can share their own social cards and invite someone else to leave a trace. The project can therefore grow person by person: one image leads to another, and one story reveals the next.
The million only matters if it is truly human: 1,000,000 places, filled one by one.
The fresco remains first and foremost a social, collective experience. Gifts at 50,000-pixel milestones are an additional promotional benefit for voluntary entrants, separate from the pixel purchase.
